Scammers pretending to be from Radio Spectrum Management are targeting radio users and licence holders on social media.
Radio Spectrum Management and Consumer Protection has been made aware of a scammer using a Facebook account to claim they work for the Radio Spectrum Management, part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment, and seeking personal information from licence holders and radio users.
Radio Spectrum Management would never contact radio users or licence holders on social media to ask for personal information, financial information or money.
Scammers use phishing scams to trick people into handing over personal information such as personal banking details, IRD numbers and social media passwords. In this case personal information and meetings have been requested.
If you are approached by someone Facebook claiming to be from the Radio Spectrum Management, do not hand over any information and instead delete the message and contact Radio Spectrum on 0508 RSM INFO (0508 776 463).
