The Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) has noticed an increasing amount of unsolicited or fraudulent services being offered to trade mark holders.

These unsolicited letters are neither affiliated nor associated with the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) or the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), both of which maintain official registers of Intellectual Property rights.

Letters from unfamiliar organisations, especially letters requesting payment for unsolicited services, should be treated with caution. These companies may try to create the false impression that they represent an official organisation.

More information about fraudulent Intellectual Property schemes may be found at Warning: Misleading invoices(external link). If you have any doubts about a communication that you have received, please contact IPONZ or your appointed IP professional to verify its authenticity.
